my very first order - milo cupcakes!

Nov 26, 2012 18:20

I was so so excited about this - my very first order from my colleague's sister-in-law. My colleague loves Milo, and her sister-in-law had seen the pictures from the first time I'd tried the milo cupcakes. She ordered 12, and while I was so happy to have someone want to buy my baking, I was also terribly afraid the whole thing would come out awful ( Read more... )

It was supposed to yield 10-12 cupcakes. I got twenty-five
Sounds a lot like my weekend. I wanted to make some muffins for a party, but not a lot, because there'd be other cakes and savoury food as well. I wanted to make one half with extra chocolate chips, so I took only half the batter and started filling the cups. I filled all the cups with it. The icing, again from a recipe for one batch, was more than enough for all 24 cupcakes, it would have been enough for 30. I think we stumbled upon recipes for giant cupcakes!

my original recipe even said '10-12 cupcakes depending on the wrappers you use' so i was left wondering exactly what sort of gigantic wrappers the OP had in mind. i'm still eating the extra cupcakes. i hope you found a way to get rid of the extra! <3

I decorated them with colourful frosting and all kinds of sprinkles. They were adorable and most of them were gone before anybody even touched the rather boring looking cakes. Not that those weren't good, they just didn't catch the eye like the cupcakes did. Mission accomplished. :)

Wilton's icing has always been shudder worthy. However, the gel based coloring they produce is amazing. Slide a tooth pick of that through your butter cream and see what happens.

thanks for the tip! because of the icing disaster i wasnt sure if i should totally avoid all wilton products from now on but now i'll definitely give their gel colouring a try.

These look spectacularly gorgeous! And I like the little flecks of violet better than big blobs of violet.

It's a chocolate malt powdered drink, kind of like a hot chocolate powder, very popular in Southeast Asia. I'm not sure how widely available it is in North America but if you're in Australia I think there shouldn't be a problem finding some ^^

Oh ok thanks. I'm actually in America, but we have other chocolate malt powders, I just didn't know that name.

My friend in New Zealand got me hooked on Milo!

I can find it in the Mexican/international foods section of the grocery store here in the midwest :) Usually around the cans of Dulce De Leche.
