Old-fashioned Honey Cakes

I love Honey Cakes, but they are very hard! A lot of people add butter to soften, but I don’t like the idea of ruining the traditional recipe. Yes, they are technically cookies. But whereever I searched, they are always translated as "honey cakes" or "honeycakes".

Here is something simalar to what you describe. Since my grandmother was Swiss German this was called Lebkuchen.

The origin is similar, but Lebkuchen often use molasses/treacle and are more soft and airy. (One recipe you mentioned has no molasses, softens them with whiskey.)

But I love Lebkuchen too! Thanks for the links - I tried making them before, but I didn't like how they turned out. I'll try one of these recipes later.

The recipes I gave you use honey. Hopefully they will turn out well. The one time I tried to make them they were very sticky.
