This actually sounds a lot like what we call Shoofly Pie in the US :D Looks delicious!

Pretty much, though I'd just use molasses instead of boiling the sugar/fruit.

I've just googled Shoofly Pie, and now I think I'll have to give it a go. There must be somewhere near me that I can find molasses.

Squashed fly biscuits is the more general term in our house, but we have used dead fly biscuit as well.
