If you've never made these before, I'd suggest making a batch before committing to making 200 of something that may be a disaster. That way you'll know if they're actually good, and you'll have an idea of how many you'll actually get
Agreed - plus, it all decides on how big you make the cookies. It may make 36 1" cookies, or 12 3" cookies, and these will all take differing amounts of time to bake - you need to do a trial run!
The recipe's been used here for awhile now, the person who wrote it up just didn't mention for us future workers (we're a historical site) how many it made. Come to think of it, she didn't write how much time to bake them. It's a period wood stove though...it's all about eyeing it apparently.
I'll probably make a batch this weekend...I just tend to prefer my molasses cookies rolled in loads of sugar, but that's not very ~historical~
Oh, you definitely need about 8 batches. At least 8. Maybe 14.
And if you wind up with any extras, you can call me and I'll come get them!
For comparison, this makes just under 200: http://www.yankeemagazine.com/recipes/search/onerecipe.php?number=637 I don't think I've ever gotten that many out of it, but my recipe called for them to be cut out with a 4"-6" brandy snifter.... mine are the dinner plate size, and boy are they good!!
