Can you get a Masters degree in XKCD? I wouldn't mind studying it for a year ... ;)

Heh, tell me about it. Oh, randomly, get someone like Lex or Owen to show you some photos on my facebook sometime, just uploaded some old photos that include you and Bron at Amy/Adam's wedding.

I loved this theory. In philosophy of science, this was a long standing theory that basically says biological statements can be expressed in more complex chemical statements and so on. I know a version that argues a similar relationship between mathematics and philosophy on one hand and sociology and psychology on the other.

The interesting thing would be that if the XKCD version were true then, given mathematical truths are necessary truths, physical truths would be necessary. Would certainly put scientific relativism to rest.

What degree did you do? I'm guess it's down to science, maths or philosophy if it helps you get XKCD jokes.

On the other hand, these could all be arranged by the level of Geekery, mathematics being the most Geeky, and sociology being the least

However, I would like that biologists pet Cthulu :P

I usually get these jokes, even if I don't appreciate the haterade that sometimes leaks through to the liberal arts types out there (since that's what I tend to lean toward more... shame I never finished college >_>) Still doesn't stop this comic from being awesome and funny.

What this strip misses is that maths is applied philosophy :)
