[five days later and Kaito's arm is still in a sling (though the nurses have finally told him he can remove it within the next day).

... or rather, it's supposed to be in the sling. Kaito had never been so good at dealing with injuries. So while the sling is obviously hanging from his shoulder, it's empty as he uses both arms to fiddle with a few ( Read more... )

I can tell you it's definitely not cheap parlor tricks. I'm an illusionist too, but I was a real one. I guess normal people have to get by with the cheap stuff though, cause they can't make cool real illusions.

Guess I must be mistaken then. You'll have to excuse me. I'm more used to illusions of people's heads exploding, someone getting eaten by a giant dinosaur... You know. Basic stuff.

[shakes his head] They're illusions made from sleight-of-hand, but they're anything but cheap. It takes practice to be good at them.

Magic's like your magic. Stuff like tricks.

[brushing his non-injured hand by her ear, producing the red ribbon and danging it in front of her nose]

No witches? No warlocks? No weird, unexplainable changes in weather due to the acts of some kind of weather god?

[ Kay grins and gives the ribbon a tug ]

No, no, and no. Just badger culprits and Mr. Edgeworth's really crazy "EUREKA" sense.

[he lets her tug it away from his grip, handing dropping to his side]

What's 'Eureka' sense? And does he have that here?

....Well, there's that group of people who say they can channel spirits, but otherwise, magic is just like yours - magic tricks.

I think that's the answer 'm probably gonna get the most. But some people here come from places where magic is different, right?

Of course! Merlin is from the kingdom of Camelot, where he becomes the legendary sorcerer.

I've also met a boy claiming to go to a wizards' school...

No matter what kind of magic there is, though, mine is better. [cocky Kaito is cocky]

They have schools for that kind of thing?

That's fine with me.

Should there be anything done to prepare for the travel, then?

Stock up on food and supplies. I'm not giving you any if you run out.

Where I come from, magic basically involves rearranging the energy flow of the world into certain patterns, in order to create lightning and fire and stuff like that.

Is it an innate ability you're born with, or do you have to practice?

It's not really something just anyone can do without practice. It takes most people about a year or so of meditation and the like in order to be able to see the energy flow in the first place, and then there's learning how to arrange it, and then actually learning each spell itself...
