~Suicide Butterfly~
Three years. Three years had passed and the pain was still fresh in his soul. Three long years after the band had gone their separate ways. Three years of bouncing from town to town, from one job to another. Three years of addiction after addiction, seeking some way to fill the void. Three years of a hole ripping even bigger, allowing room for more pain.
'Three years without you,' Kyo thought to himself. "Has it really been three years?" the ex-vocalist questioned out loud. "It feels like it was just yesterday... yet the memory is so distant at the same time."
Kyo remembered that day well. It had been like any other day. The band was going to hold band practice at the studio later in the afternoon, so Kyo had decided to take his lover out for lunch. That was when Kyo found him. Deep-set gashes adorned the drummer's forearms and stomach, flowing crimson that dribbled into a puddle below where he hung from the rafter in the drafty attic. Shinya. His Shinya. Shinya's eyes were wide, unseeing of Kyo's tears that now fell freely from the vocalist's eyes. Never again would the blonde see the warmth in those dark eyes. He had lost his love: his flower. The thing of impeccable beauty that gave him the desire to continue on in the world. Lost forever.
Kyo shook his head. 'Best to not dwell on that day,' he told himself silently. The ex-vocalist wandered over to his dresser and began rummaging through the drawers. After he reached the third one down, he found what he desired: a flaky, almost leafy, substance rolled in a thin white paper, resembling that of a cigarette. Sighing to himself, Kyo brought the joint to his lips and inhaled as he held the lighter at the other end. After a moment, he exhaled. Looking down, he grabbed another item from the drawer: a thick leather-bound book.
Sitting on the floor, Kyo put the joint to his lips again and inhaled deeply as he opened the book to a random page. Intrigued by the particular page the book had opened to, Kyo pinched out the spliff and flicked it across the room. Tenderly, he picked up the book and began to read the last words of his lover.
One thing less
One thing more
One last breath
Inhaled like never before
This is the final call
Dancing in the graveyard
We could've had it all
Lying here, beneath the stars
One thing less
One thing more
One last breath
Inhaled like never before
On the edge of darkness
The free butterfly
So soft is the wind's caress
Drifting towards suicide
Choking back a sob, Kyo wiped the tears from his eyes. Three years since those words, Shinya's final plea for help, had been written. On the surface, he seemed to have been doing so much better on the medication. What a rude awakening. Kyo shook his head, chasing the thoughts away. There was nothing they could have done different. It was simply Shinya's time: the drummer had decided it himself. And the time had come.
Gently, Kyo began peeling up the paper from the book, careful not to tear it. After he'd managed to detach the paper from it's card stock arrangement, Kyo held the poem to his lips for a moment. Tears flowing freely, the man smiled and held it out in front of him. Gingerly, he took the Bic he held in his right hand and set it alight. "Be free, my suicide butterfly," he whispered. "I will see you in the graveyard when the time comes."

A/N: I actually meant to post this last night right after I finished it but LiveJournal decided to be a douchebag. While I'm pleased by the way it turned out, I really expected better from myself. That poem is not up to my standards: then again, it was written in less than ten minutes. Anyway, hope you guys like it!
