Aha, yet another trope for minorities - pain and death of lesbian children can be used as a LEARNING experience for the poor, ignorant straighties who will then grow and become better people because they're inherently good.

Shame about their victims.

Yeah, so sick of the whole "teachable moment" meme.

...not to excuse the show or the character, the which I have not watched, but isn't a lot of discimination due to people's culturally programmed assumptions? So don't you rather want the entire population to make the same journey as this Harry Corn character does in this episode?

And, a lot of bullying *is* done by basically decent in their own context people who are just instinctively pushing against the outsider, or at those further down the pecking order, with only avague sense of why.

We can't impale them all near ants nests - though it would be nice (and yes, I was alientated and bullied for different reasons as a kid) - so anything that gives them a nudge towards a wider moral context is has to be good.

I may be entirely too cynical about the human race, but a lot of people don't want to widen their moral contexts. They're perfectly happy in their own prejudices. And I don't want to watch stories where the death of someone like me is used as a teachable moment. It hits way too close to home.

I agree about the not watching. I wouldn't either.
However, it's good that such programs exist.
