*Remus looks up at the familiar, half-glanced figures of James and Lily, smiling a little and mid-conversation with Sirius, arms folded as he leans back against the counter. His greeting dies in his throat, though, as he realizes who's with them, and two things happen at once. He straightens, eyes locked onto Snape, and he wraps a hand firmly around Sirius's arm to keep him in place. Or, more precisely, to keep him from attacking Snape on sight.*
*It's not quite the instinct to attack Snape so much as reflex--although he is a Death Eater, and an influential one at that, Sirius is willing to permit that it is remotely possible that Snape might be useful. But when confronted with him; the horrible and truly unholy nose, the scowl, the very fact of his unpleasant existence, there's a specific muscle in Sirius' hand that twitches, ready to hex him just as it was ready six years ago. It's only Remus' grip that keeps him civil, and his face shows the restraint.*

*Some people consistently leave these meetings more content and assured than their nervous faces had shown when they arrived, but the majority simply grow more puzzled and grim as the hours pass. Moody, though he's noted this, tends to boot everyone out of his house with the same instruction to go home to "sleep it off til morning", smiles and frowns.
Tonight, however, after he's made it clear people should pick up their bags and get a move on and the angry back door spring begins to squawk at people's trickling departures, he singles out two members of the crowd and waves them toward him. Out of the light of the kitchen the hallway stretches darkly back into the house, leading to locked spare rooms, a bedroom no one's ever seen despite a few tentative nosing-abouts, and one of the most paranoia-inducing bathrooms in Europe. Moody waits for James and Sirius, lord of his brownish and dangerous castle and looking a little bear-like standing between the hallways's narrow, picture-less walls.*

*After murmuring a word to Remus about meeting him at home, Sirius meanders over, down the dim hall, careful not to lean against anything lest some sort of ward or trap go off. Still, he's a bit grim after the meeting, and what he says to Moody is only half a joke.*
So. Are we tailing Snape, then, making sure he keeps his nose clean?

Your stealth and tracking scores were fine, Black, but I'd prefer we don't make our inside men any more obvious than they already are at risk of being, if you can hold yourself back. He might not see you, but you're green enough someone else might... I've got a different sort of idea for you, involving your brother.

*Even though he's been dragging bits and pieces about Regulus before the Order for months now, it still makes Sirius go still and stiff to hear him mentioned as part of one of Moody's plans.*
What about him. He won't talk to me, if that's what your thinking.
