I agree with you. Maids often do dirty and demeaning work, and are often treated like something subhuman. Here in the UK several domestic workers have escaped from their employers and charged them (usually Middle Eastern diplomats) with slavery. Everyone deserves to work for a living wage and make a decent living at it, with personal time off for rest and relaxation.

the law needs to be changed - so that they don't penalise the employers;
1) when the maids get pregnant.
2) run away from home.

get these two out of the way - im open for a free-er and more level employment terms.

if u r going to assume the position, that the employers have to be investigated, when maids go mia then i fully support that they should be investigated. currently, employers have no such protection from this.

I absolutely agree that they should be entitled to a day of rest. Working as a maid is very physically demanding (anyone who's cleaned a house from top to bottom in one day can attest to just how damn taxing it can be). It's not just their mental health that would suffer, their physical health would suffer, as well.

As for the 'treat the maid like family' bit, I haven't met one person who didn't need a break from their families, too, so that excuse doesn't really fly with me. Sometimes, you just need to get the hell away and do your own thing. Or rest. Or whatever.

To me, working someone 24/7 with no breaks just violates basic human rights.
