Orlando turned so he could see the other young man’s face. “I envy you, you know. You can run away with your sailor to whatever horizon calls you. I fear that will not be my fate.”
“Why not?”
“Because…” Orlando spared Cillian the recitation of his responsibilities and obligations. It was too dreary to ruin the lad’s mood with. If only Orlando were a sun burnt commoner with enough brass to jingle in his pockets and Viggo on his arm. He would gladly tramp the muddy lanes, landless as a Gypsy, for love of this man.
This is interesting, especially compared with how easily Viggo is willing to hand over his title as 'king' to another and follow Orlando (and as you showed in his actions with Miranda, he doesn't feel any less responsibility for those in his care than Orlando does). I'm not sure why Orlando believes as he does, but I am sure you have some means to show him the error of his logic hidden up your puffy sleeves.
Roaches on a Christmas Pudding? Ah, what an inventive mind you do have.Johnnie gives me the chills sometimes, he won't do anything out in the open to hurt Viggo to spare Orlando's feelings, but what plan has his jealous heart in store for Viggo? Looks like all retaliations are on hold for the present with far worth danger ahead. Thank you for one more delicious chapter. (((Hugs))) Torry
PS is "The Highwayman" on hold or did I miss the ending somewhere? Just curious.

"“I feel capital,” Orlando answered, his eyes on the horizon. “This is most exhilarating.”
“To judge from your color and the brightness of your eyes, you speak the truth.”"
Perfect tuition!!
