Oh, this just gets better with each installment! I knew Viggo was important, but I didn't realize how important. I also didn't realize just how painful his past had been for him to get to the point he's at now.

And poor Johnny... surely you'll find someone to comfort him since Orlando is so clearly smitten with Viggo.

Well, you know a thing or two or three about layered characters so I'm taking your comment as a big compliment. As for dear, unrequited Major Depp, I believe he'll one day be able to see past Orlando and realize love was right in front of his eyes. *hugs until I see you again*

I certainly try to make my characters multi-layered. It makes the story so much more interesting. *g* And I'll trust you with Major Depp. You haven't disappointed yet.

So, how soon will I get those hugs in person? In two weeks, by any chance?

OMG you're killing me with that pic of RC from Master and Commander ... those pants are sinful ... I love it!! No one can write a well executed rescue like you can ... a nail biter and yet there was still room to fit in the humor and beautifully written scenes of redemption. let's hope RC decides to jump into the fray and lend a hand ... and let's hope he keeps wearing those pants throughout ...

And I thought you'd be hoping RC would be getting out of those pants eventually... *BG*

Hey ... far be it from me to interfere with your work but if you're offering to have RC slip out of those bad boys it's not like I'd stop you or anything .....

ooooh, how excited I was to see this in my inbox this morning!

Viggo's history greatly intrigues me, and I love that he is not simply the hero we all see him as through Orli's eyes. It definitely makes sense that he would have a savage background, considering his Danish origins. This chapter also really serves to remind how much older Viggo is than Orli, too.

And ohhh, I am so intrigued by Johnny's inner turmoil. I adore him and respect his intense devotion to Orlando, but I also fear he will do something that everyone will regret. Oh dear.

Sean and Cillian are so adorable, not to mention Karl! Certainly Cillian wouldn't make Sean give up his life at sea to manage a crummy tavern? It would turn Sean into a grouchy, resentful stick in the mud, weighed down by too much responsibility and lack of freedom.

Wee, I wait for the next chapter!

What wonderful comments! I'm so glad you're enjoying the development of the characters and the 'thickening' of the plot. A lot of foreshadowing in this chapter, and I hope you like how each thread plays out.

Re: Sean leaving the sea. In a word... never. ;)

I don't know how you do it, but this gets better and better! Cillian and Sean were just adorable. I do hope the two of them make a life at sea (just can't see this Sean running a tavern).

I knew Johnny felt something for Orlando, but had no idea how strongly he felt nor that he had been chaste for want of those feelings being returned. I do hope that this triangle does not cause more heartbreak.

And, Viggo. What can I say? A complex and richly drawn character that had done wrong, but felt the weight of it and attempted to atone for it. I cannot wait until he and Orli are alone as well!

Wonderful update! Impatiently awaiting the next chapter!
*hugs*

I'm so glad you like the Sean/Cillian pairing. They make me want to write a classic Highland romance m/m style, with star-crossed lovers from warring clans, etc. (I know neither man is Scottish, but I've taken liberties before ;)

I really enjoyed writing Johnny's character, btw. When I've 'cast' him before in fanfic, I've written him as a version of Captain Jack, just a little less flamboyant. I thought it would be a challenge for me to write a stoically noble unrequited Johnny.

It might be a little while before our lovers on the run can enjoy a 'reunion', but you know how resourceful our guys are...

*hugs you back*

As you did with Oded, you let us see even the flaws in your characters and how they've contributed to making them the men they've become. Though now I worry that Viggo will convince himself his past deeds have made him unworthy to partner with Orlando - a conviction Johnny would be only too happy to reinforce. Still, I suspect you have another fate in mind for the faithful major - and more than a few twists still to come before we arrive there.
