Chapter 20

“Come on Annabelle.”

“Oww! Why Simone? Why do we have to pack already? We leave tomorrow so we have plenty of time yet to pack.”

“I rather have it done now.”

“Why? It’s our last day here and I want to spend some more time, not just wasting it with packing.”

“We will not waste time! It won’t take long. Beside with all your whining, you could have packed a suitcase already.”

“I wasn’t whining. I just don’t see the point to packing now instead of later. Why don’t we go and have fun?”

“We can have fun later.”

“No I want to have fun NOW”, Annabelle said.

She was getting really annoyed.

“Why are you being so stubborn? Just pack some things so we don’t have to do it at the last minute.”

“God you sound like my mother.” Annabelle said, followed with a whispered “ And I don’t even listen to her so why should I listen to you?”

“What did you say?” Simone didn’t hear exactly what Annabelle whispered.

“Nothing. Just hurry and pack the damn thing so we can go.”

“Excuse me? Don’t order me around. I just asked you to do something so we don’t have to do it tonight. It’s not my problem you’re being lazy.”

“LAZY? And what do you mean I order you around. It’s rather the other way around. You are bossing me around like you’re my mother or something.”

“First of all I’m not your mother. Second I wasn’t ordering you I was asking you. It’s a complete difference.”

“Yeah right. You know what, why don’t you go pack your stupid suitcase and I’ll go downstairs to have a nice drink at the bar while I wait for you. I’m not wasting my time for that."

Annabelle spat at Simone and with a slam of the door, she was gone.

“What the fuck just happened?” Simone asked herself.

Dumbfounded, she looked at the door where her lover had just disappeared. Simone shook herself out of the sort of trance she was in and she began to fold her clothes. She wasn’t going to go after Annabelle, she knew that once she was cooled down, she would come back.

After some time passed by, Simone’s suitcase was full. She had everything packed away except for the things she still needed.

To stubborn to go after Annabelle yet, she decided to pass time by packing Annabelle’s suitcase.

Grabbing a sweater, she began to pack.

‘I better do it or we’ll be late tomorrow.’

Meanwhile at the bar
Annabelle sat sulking at the bar. She hated fights with Simone. She always felt immediately guilty and sad when the fight ended.

She knew she was being stupid, but she couldn’t help it. She felt she was right and stubbornly stayed downstairs waiting for Simone to give in.

“You want another?” a bartender asked.

Annabelle jumped at the sudden voice, but quickly recovered. She nodded her head.

The bartender refilled her glass once again. Knowing it would be stupid to drink alcohol right now, Annabelle drank coke.

She felt like something stronger but knew it wouldn’t help, only make things worse. Or so it seemed in her situation.

Always when she got drunk, something happened and it wasn’t good. So coke was the safest bet.

Annabelle didn’t know how long she sat there but suddenly she felt someone behind her.

Her body reacted always when Simone walked in the room. Annabelle turned around and there was Simone.

‘Here I am pissed of at her, but I still think she is beautiful and sexy as hell.’

Simone walked up to the bar and stopped next to Annabelle. Not looking her in the eye, she asked the bartender for a glass of orange juice.

The bartender fulfilled her request and left quickly. He felt a tension in the air involving these two women.

“So you’re done then?” Annabelle asked without looking at her.

“Yes”, was Simone’s curt reply.

“You finally came looking for me?”

“No. I was thirsty.”

For a while they were silent. They were not angry any more, but both were too stubborn to give in first.

“Look I….”

“Annabelle….”

They both talked at once. They looked at each other and had to smile. They knew they were both being stupid.

“You first.”

“Ok. Look Simone, I’m sorry I reacted the way I did. I was wrong and I see that now. As soon as I walked out of that door I just knew I was doing the wrong thing.”

“It’s ok. I guess I was wrong too.”

“You guess? You babied me”.

“Annabelle-.“

“I’m sorry. Go on.”

“As I was saying, I was wrong too. I treated you more like a mother treats her daughter. I shouldn’t have done that. I’m sorry.”

“It’s ok. I just….”

Annabelle stopped speaking as she saw that they had listeners. Not wanting to be overheard, she grabbed Simone’s hand.

“Let’s go somewhere more private.”

They walked out of the hotel.

Annabelle let go of Simone. She didn’t know yet where she stood or if she was safe territory yet. While they were walking, they talked.

”As I was about to say, I just felt like you was more my mother then my lover. I felt like a kid again. My mom sort acts the way you acted and I don’t like it. It just gave bad memories and I acted upon them. I’m sorry; I guess I should have told you instead walking away.”

“It’s ok. I understand now how you feel. We were both wrong. But we did learn from it though. So it isn’t that all bad.”

“Yeah. Talk before you walk.” Annabelle grinned.

Simone grinned to and grabbed Annabelle’s hand again. Things were right again.

“How about we go on and do something nice and make some more memories?”

“Amen to that”, Annabelle said before she placed a soft, gentle kiss on her lover’s lips.
