Fic: Jean-Luc and the Technically-Navy Dream Coat (No Really It's Made Of Thought Matter)

I'm sorry. The title is very appropriate (you'll see) yet very misleading. I see you thinking now: ah, this must be a cracky, light-hearted romp! Possibly with musical interludes! That's because I didn't come up with it: Erin did. If I had come up with a title, it would be something earnest and overly serious, like this fic. Well, at least it's not ( Read more... )

Oh, this was beautiful - Q needing metaphorical help, and Picard may not be omnipotent but he's wiser than Q will ever be. And at the same time Picard's pride, and wanting to be more than a pet, that Q's chaos brings life to the universe that Picard would greatly miss...wonderful. Also loved the choice of uniform - I didn't actually know the history there, but the symbolism was marvelous.

...I've never read fic for them before, now I want more...

Well, there's on thing I think every P/Q fan should read because OMG instant head canon (or actually, I think this was my head canon even before I read the fic), which is Astolat's Past Duties. Aside from that I like Alara Rogers' fic, especially some of her "What if" style AUs.

You've done a great job with your Communard changes, and with dwelling a bit more on the substance of the interaction--I think this realizes the fic/moment's potential well. The sewing as a psychic act, I think, is a bit clearer with your edits. Excellent job smoothing the voices. I like the details about Picard's mother. She's this half-glimpsed character who intrigued me in canon and who it's interesting to explore a touch.

Sorry about the title.

Man, I spent so much time trying to figure out whether those damn Communards had a uniform or not, and it's frankly extremely unrealistic that Picard would figure this out, but, eh. Still makes a better point than the Union uniform. And I know more about French history now.

I love this so much.
Of course he would come to the person who inspired him in the first place.
Picard/Q has been my favorite pair since ever, and I'm so happy I found a new fic of such high quality for it.

Thank you :) Somehow this: I'm so happy I found a new fic of such high quality for it is especially gratifying to hear.

sorry it's taken me a while to comment here -

this is my... certainly second or third at most picard/Q fic, so i don't have much to compare it to, but i like it very much. i really like the comparison of Q to the metaphor guys (indeed, it seems to justify that episode to me, which is good as i other didn't like it very much), and i like all the ideas about what the continuum could be doing in bits of the show we don't see. also - this is probably how i like my picard/Q - implied. so, well done on all fronts. tis a good thing :D

I like the metaphor people ep, even though it makes little sense, linguistically, because our language is all metaphors (on a cognitive level) and intertextuality, too, so why does the starfleet babelfish have such a big problem with that?

P/Q is a lot like Doctor/Companion, except a million times more so and I'm not even sure I ship it in a romantic way, so what's implied here is... intense feelings of some kind.
