Pan's Labyrinth

Dave and J watched Pan's Labyrinth this evening (big screen size courtesy of the work projector - yay).  And what a film.  It was beautiful and amazing, extremely dark in both the fairy tale and real life aspects.  The film is set during the Spanish civil war where a young girl (Ofelia) and her pregnant mother go to live with the mother's new ( Read more... )

I really want to see Pan's Labyrinth.
The clips I've seen of it put me in mind of the Brothers Quay.

It wasn't shown down here in the cultural desert that I inhabit, and the rental places have closed around here, so I'm hoping that a friend of mine buys it (shameless ligging, I know).

On the subject of Bond, I'm glad you liked it. I saw it at the cinema and really liked it. Then again, I am a Boy, and one for whom Bond films have long been a Guilty (mindless) Pleasure during which I am able to suspend my Chartered Pedant's Heroic levels of Disbelief.

I feel compelled to ask your opinion(s) of Craig as Bond:
1) do you think he carries it off successfully?
2) as a woman, 'Would You'? :-o
(As a Married Woman, please feel free to tell me to STFU/FOAD on this one.)
:D

What a coincidence! We watched Pan's Labyrinth for the first time a few nights ago, and I have been meaning to post a review. Yours is very good. I agree, I much prefer subtitles to dubbing - I pretty much refuse to watch dubbed films. It just ruins the mood somehow. Although, for some reason, it took us about 20 minutes to get the dang subtitles to appear. Our TV/DVD was being uncooperative. :P

I also didn't find the violence excessive. I know it was there, but I have to think hard to remember what it actually was - which is good.

I am very glad I finally saw it.

My sister has been telling me for a year or two how much I need to see that movie. She also mentioned the violence. The only part that really got to her was the ending, because it was too close and personal to her as a result of what happened to her first husband. (I won't say more due to the spoiler aspect.) I really want to see it. Thank you for this review.
