Baekhyun thinks that his relationship has been a little plain lately, so he takes his pen out and starts making a list. Maybe it's because Sehun's academic year is ending and he's literally buried in piles of assignments, or maybe it's because Baekhyun's getting busier at work himself, he's determined to do something about it.

1. Make coffee for him
Baekhyun's a barista, so anything regarding caffeine is usually in his field of expertise, yet when he tries to come up with something new specially for Sehun, he finds it difficult.
When he has the time, Baekhyun likes to mix flavours around, often coming up with new stuff for Sehun to try. Sehun has probably had more than enough coffee in this relationship so far to compensate for the rest of his life, to say the least.
Baekhyun knows that Sehun likes green tea cream the most, he often sees him come back from Starbucks with a cup of that in his hands?which sort of saddens him, because why does he have to buy them when his boyfriend can make them? With twice the amount of love even? Baekhyun doesn't say anything about it though, because he knows that they're so much more than just coffee and living together.
Back to the present, Baekhyun has one leg crossed over the other, pen tapping against his chin absently while he thinks. Sehun's out hanging out with Jongin, so that gives Baekhyun some time to think about this. What can Sehun possibly like at first try? Baekhyun knows that there were some flavours Sehun wasn't really fond of the first time Baekhyun had let Sehun try them. Sehun had really tried to reassure Baekhyun that they were fine, and that he was probably the only weirdo who didn't like them?and that had promptly caused Baekhyun to break out into laughter, instantly feeling better. Baekhyun ended up recommending only two out of the original five flavours he came up with to his boss in fear of greater rejection.
Eyes scanning over the coffee making equipment they had in their kitchen, Baekhyun tries to remember the flavour that Sehun drinks the least often. Maybe it's because he doesn't get enough exposure to it?he has it.
After scribbling down the name of the drink and what he thinks might be appropriate proportions to mix them in, he gets up and starts working on it, almost pushing the chair over from the force he used to stand up. Baekhyun makes sure to stuff the paper into the back of his pocket to keep it out of Sehun's sight though, lest he comes back any moment.

Sehun gets called out of his room one afternoon, and he shuffles lazily into the kitchen where he thinks the voice is coming from, only to be greeted with Baekhyun's grin and a cup of coffee on their table.
He glances at the clock after Baekhyun gestures to it, taking the seat opposite Sehun's after Sehun sits down. 4pm. He has a class and a report to write later. Whatever, he thinks as he picks the cup up with both hands and starts sipping without much thinking. Baekhyun hadn't even bothered to tell him what it was this time. It takes a few seconds to register that?minty??taste in his mouth after swallowing, and Sehun tries his best to keep his expression neutral despite the mint attacking his taste buds.
In all honesty, Baekhyun isn't that bad at his job, but mint americano??
It tasted bitter and fresh all at once and it left Sehun speechless because he didn't know what to think of that. After putting the cup down, his eyes flicker up to meet Baekhyun's. He blinks at him and Baekhyun blinks back. During the few seconds that Sehun took to swallow and try to come up with something coherent to describe the mint americano, Baekhyun's expression had gone from hopeful to nervous, hands now clasped together in front of him. Baekhyun leans in before speaking.
"Do you like it?"
"Yeah. It tastes... fantastic." Sehun internally groans at his word choice, because he really shouldn't be lying to his boyfriend.
(This happens pretty often?Sehun telling Baekhyun that his coffee tastes nice despite him not liking. It doesn't mean that Baekhyun's horrible at all this coffee business, Sehun is just more picky with what he likes to put into his mouth, especially when it comes to beverages.)
Slowly, Baekhyun's expression turns into one of relief, the smile coming back to his face. This makes Sehun feel less guilty about his white lie, because the last thing he wants is to have Baekhyun whining over how lousy he is and feel horrible about himself. Then, Baekhyun starts. "Should I pour it into your tumbler for your class later then?"
This causes Sehun's eyes to widen, because he really doesn't like mint all that much (though he plans to keep this fact away from Baekhyun for as long as possible). Sehuns waves his hands around as he splutters, speaking at a rate faster than normal. "Uh... no thank you! I mean, I have to go and get ready now. I think my class starts in half an hour? Yeah, it starts at half an hour. See you soon, hyung!" Baekhyun doesn't even bother questioning the fact that Sehun had just answered his own question because he was soon left alone in the kitchen, Sehun having already left to get ready. The boy probably is in a rush for time anyway. Baekhyun can find time to come up with better stuff next time.
//
The next morning after the minty incident, as Sehun labels it mentally, Baekhyun pushses a warm bottle of cafe mocha over before he leaves for work and Sehun finds himself falling all over again when he sees the smile that came along with it. Baekhyun's coffee is always the one thing that helps him get through his day, especially after he had just pulled an all-nighter and he has to drag himself to school with zero hours of sleep. Also when it's winter and he's cold. As cheesy as it sounds, the coffee helps to keep him warm not only physically, because he'd feel warm inside out after drinking it every time.
//
Not so coincidentally, coffee was sort of what brought them together.
Baekhyun used to be the barista that made girls from Sehun's campus visit the cafe that he worked in everyday. Like those girls, Sehun visited the cafe pretty often too, though he didn't go there for Baekhyun. He was there because the environment was pretty conducive for studying and no one would disturb him unless they really had to. Plus he was a poor college student, what's better than getting to occupy a table in a cafe for more than four hours despite paying only five dollars for a drink?
Baekhyun first noticed him almost a month after Sehun had started becoming that cafe's regular customer, and soemtimes Sehun didn't even have to open his mouth to order because Baekhyun would know what he wanted already.
He started out by finding Sehun cute, from the way his face sort of scrunched up unattractively whenever he came across something he didn't understand?okay, maybe it was more of an endearing habit that Sehun had because it made him look more constipated than cute?to the little happy dance he did whenever he finished a report there ("Seriously, Sehun, even if I hadn't kept my eyes on you more than half the time I would've noticed too. You were that obvious.")
It slowly progressed from Baekhyun drawing smileys on his orders, to writing encouraging messages, until one day, he finally plucked up enough courage to write down his number. He had even gotten Yixing to man the register for him for a few moments just so that he can walk over and give it to Sehun personally.
Along with a "My name is Baekhyun, but you can call me tonight. My shift ends at 7 today, mind waiting for me?"

2. Be more affectionate
This one would be a little more difficult, Baekhyun thinks as he writes it down. They have never really been one for lots of physical contact, and starting to be would definitely earn raised eyebrows from the people who knew them.
Baekhyun is proved right the moment his hand settles on Sehun's knee after he moves a little closer. They're at Yixing's place and the said boy is talking animatedly while the rest of them listen on, nodding occasionally. Kyungsoo looks at them, or more specifically, at where Baekhyun's hand was before he looked at Baekhyun with his eyebrows raised. Sehun's got his usual bored face on, as if the hand on his knee wasn't there at all, and Baekhyun sighs.
He tries again by initiating hugs. Apparently these work better because he gets more of a reaction, even though they usually end up cuddling instead of doing whatever they were supposed to do, and Sehun would end up whining about his pile of uncompleted homework later.
Baekhyun's arms are open for him every time he needs them, and he likes that bit of reassurance he gets.
It goes from hugging to spooning sometimes, and they switch between being the big spoon and the small spoon.
One night when they were cuddling, huddled close together under the sheets for warmth, Sehun suddenly opens his mouth and promptly spoils the mood.
"Are you trying to get into my pants?"
Baekhyun looks up, not knowing if he should be amused or offended at that. That Sehun isn't getting what Baekhyun had in mind and is mistaking it all for something else. He settles for a roll of his eyes, pulling away a little just so that he can push himself up and look at Sehun properly.
"I wasn't trying to, but if you're trying to say that they are free for me to get into, I definitely wouldn't mind."

3. Start being his happy pill
This should be the easiest, because life, as Baekhyun knows it, has been pretty kind to him.
Sehun starts to see those cheesy and encouraging messages on his tumbler again, and his smile widens a little every time he steps out of their shared apartment's door with his tumbler in hand. Sometimes he even sees pick up lines on them. While it'd make Sehun gag if they were to be verbally said to him, the thought behind it makes him smile.
Sometimes terms of endearment slip past Baekhyun's lips too, and even though Sehun thinks they sound kinda gross, he'd grin. It's the shy, embarrassed smile that comes after it that makes his day.
The day his school ends for the year, he makes it a point to refuse going out and celebrating it with his friends, going home early instead. He knows that Baekhyun would still be working, and that means that he has more time to think.
That day, Sehun sits down in the kitchen and takes his pen and paper out, starting his list out by writing the numbers on the margin of the paper like Baekhyun did.
