Incandescens! It's nice to see you again, even in these completely disturbing circumstances. I am very glad that I am not the only person who had a problem with this. Spielberg and Lucas are such major figures in the film-making industry, and - it just kind of boggles me that they or anyone could think like that. I hadn't picked up that subtext in any of the films at all, and I almost wish I didn't now know this. You summed it up, basically! Why. Seriously, why.

Still around here, and still reading your lj. :)

I agree that it is intensely disturbing to see their lines of thought working in that way.

I DON'T EVEN KNOOOOOW

I WAS A CHILD! IT WAS WRONG AND YOU KNEW IT! <---DIALOGUE NOW FOREVER RUINED FOREVER FOR ME

Honestly I wouldn't say that the actors played it that way remotely and the script doesn't imply it that way necessarily at all so let's have the Jacques Derrida approach re: the actual film.

But...how could they even think that? Three guys! Three mainsteam Hollywood guys! WHAAAAT.

Maybe they read Lolita and took it at face value that banging 'promiscuous' 12-year-olds is AWWWWRIGHT!

Point. They missed it.

This probably seems quite random, but Toby talks about her lovely waaifu and your awesome discussions frequently, and you seemed like an interesting person to check out. Then I noticed the Sarah Waters and the Tori Amos and, well...I couldn't resist asking. May I friend you? You clearly have good taste in books and music ~_^

Hee, I didn't realise I was internet-famous as Toby's uncommon-law wife - absolutely! Go ahead! And may I extend the same interest to you, and friend you, who are apparently interested in poetry, folk music, and Ursula LeGuin, which adds both excellent taste and the sense to add it to your LJ interests list.

(I am sitting with the new Tori Amos album in my hand as I speak, shrink-wrapped. The suspense is killing me! So this is a good time to bring it up, I guess. And what's your favourite Sarah Waters book?)
