I saw this post and thought, "You haven't read Emma yet??" Then, "Ohhhh, a comic version of that Emma."

I like the art style in the preview, but the marker colouring looks kinda sloppy in places, and the text bubbles look really out of place with the artwork (digital vs hand-drawn/coloured). I think I'd rather just read the original novel... And as I keep looking at the comic, wow, there's so much text there you really might as well read the original!! I feel like I'm reading the bubbles for so long, I don't even notice the artwork except as an afterthought.

I do like to see visuals with text, but, especially for classic novels like Austen's, or L M Montgomery's, I'd rather see illustrations in the text (and oh, it'd be sooo cool to illustrate a project like that!!) than read a comic book adaptation. I like those books because of how they're written, not just because of the characters or what happens... or something like that.

heh :) The adapter, Nancy Butler said that Marvel tried to get people who read comics interested in reading the classics - or they were trying to branch out. The first one was Pride and Prejudice which I read and didn't like the art which is more mature and darker, then Sense and Sensibility this art is nicer - I like this best out of the 3. If you have time, check their preview on marvel website, I'll be interested in what you think. I'm waiting for Northanger Abbey complete version to read it too since I'm a complete-freek! I think they are a prettier version of Cliffnotes, therefore can never replace the originals :)

Totally agree.

I think I did read the S&S adaptation, actually. The art was the reason :) Ohhh, are they doing Northanger Abbey? *checks* They are!! That's my favourite Austen novel (I feel the heroine is the one I most relate to, haha-and I just love the humour), so I'll probably check it out too...
