Ah!! I just lent my copy of this volume to a friend, so I can't look back at it!! I'll try to remember when I get it back :)
Their teacher really is awful. I kinda think it's too exaggerated and unrealistic... but it makes for good shoujo drama, so I let it go :D And I was happy the shoes made an appearance again!!! Kya~
Aren't those shoes the cutest? Let me know when the book is returned to you, I'll ask more questions - someone need to go all fangirl with me with this series :P
Okay, I looked back at p122 (think I have the right page-first line is "I'm fr-freezing..."?) Wow, that face is tricky!! The boys really really have the same hair style, same eyebrows... But I'm going to say it's Shin, because the face is sweating and that matches the other panels with Shin and his fever.
I don't know what's going on with the lozenge. The English lettering doesn't differentiate between Hana's and Maria's handwriting, so if that was supposed to be a clue, we missed it. Probably there'll be an explanation next volume though, right?
"Probably there'll be an explanation next volume though, right? " It looks like they do. I went ahead and bought the japanese takobon 4-9. I do like this series. The writing is different. Hana's handwriting is a bit rounder and Maria's one more angular. For example, the character for rice field = 田, Hana's is a circle with 2 intersecting lines inside and Maria's is a square with 2 intersecting lines inside. Does that make sense?
Ohhh, you're a super-fan!! Yeah, that explanation makes sense. Hmm... have to wait another month to find out what's going on!
Another thought, though this may be over-thinking: Maria's old friend could only mouth words, not speak them, right? So I wondered if "You taint everyone around you" is really what she was saying, or if it was just something that looked similar? (for example, "change" instead of "taint"? but for the translation to work, the translator/adapter/editor would have to know that ahead and work out something that would make sense in both languages... which is possible, but seems complicated, so that's why I wonder if I'm over-thinking it.) We'll see...

Very interesting thought about "taint" vs "change" I can't wait for the next few volumes.
