I finished reading I Love You Baby today :) Thanks again for sending it! The two kids are the same age (Tomo, the boy, starts out short since he hasn't had his growth spurt yet). It was pretty cute, even though I was occasionally frustrated with the central conflict of the girl not being allowed to go anywhere/talk to people. (not sure how much of it you read-apparently there was a reason for her mom's strict rules but it didn't get revealed till the end so for several volumes it seemed unnecessarily harsh and excessive to me.) I enjoyed that the characters acted goofy/silly like the middle schoolers they were.

Thanks for the updates :) I got the series because it's short and the art is cute :)
Oh, they are middleschoolers. What is the real reason that her mother forbids her to talk to strangers? I kind of thought it was a shorter version of Hibi Chouchou :P I only read volume 1 in French and looked at the drawing in volume 1-4 in Japanese.
Her friends are great, right?

Early on and throughout the series, there are references to Mirei promising her mom not to tell strangers her name or talk to them, and to come straight home from school, etc. In volume 4 (like halfway through the volume) they finally reveal that when she was a little kid some random guy like abducted her? she was found soon after safely, but after that her mom quit her job and stayed home all the time and imposed the strict rules. I kind of wondered all along if something like that had happened, so I wasn't exactly surprised, but I thought it was a little over-dramatic to withhold that info till the end, and while it did make the mother's concern more understandable I still though she hadn't ever expressed her concern very well (she just seemed mean and wouldn't listen to any of her daughter's requests to do things (the classic source of shoujo drama, people not talking to each other sensibly :) ). i suppose there probably are parents in the real world who would respond that way but still it didn't seem ideal...) Anyway it was still ( ... )

Thanks for the info.
You're right, in Hibi Chouchou, the main girl is just very shy. I meant that both stories have the same premises that the girls can't talk to boys, they both have girl friends protecting them, and the boys are both doing martial arts :)
