I enjoyed the manga adaptation of The Changelings by the author/artist team of Nante Suteki ni Japanesque. (I read the scans several years ago... I think it'd be difficult to find the original edition outside of maybe a used book store or Amazon Japan.) It might have changed some things to have a more shoujo-happy-end, though.

Volume 11 of Devil and Her Love Song was so dramatic!!! Something about the series reminds me of 70s manga, but I'm not quite sure what. Shin's hair looks a bit retro, perhaps. I wasn't convinced about forgiving Father John either (or Papa John as some call him, but I have a hard time keeping a straight face when I read that ^^; ). Maybe if there had been more time between meeting him and forgiving him, so we'd see more of his character, but this volume was just so packed with one! thing! happening! after! another! I feel bad for Shin, and I hope he can forgive himself for not being able to save Maria from falling. In such a moment, he hardly had time to process what was happening or overcome the instinct of ( ... )

And I don't even think it's that selfish to want to protect the injured hand on which your driving goal and talent rest... Maybe I just didn't get the proper sense of the danger for Maria at that moment. But there were several people watching, and from a practical standpoint, any of them were equally or more capable of rescuing her than Shin with his injury. But I know this is shoujo manga and there are Emotions, so practicality isn't the first thing on anyone's mind :)

I think when I first heard the premise of Hajimari no Niina, I was intrigued but decided to hold off until I knew how it ended. My train of thought probably went something like, I always root for the first-crush/first-boyfriends in shoujo manga, but that's a significant age gap and hurdle to overcome, so she might not end up with him, and then I'll be sad. But she does get her first boyfriend back, yes? I did read the epilogue chapter that ran in one of the HtY special magazines. (I do remember you saying you wanted to read that, maybe it was in a comment on my ( ... )

Heh, Shin's only 16/17 at that age, they think unrealistically adding shojo manga on top of that. In his mind, he should just sacrifice himself for Maria and protect her at all costs, if that makes sense. He didn't want anyone else to rescue her because that would mean that she can't rely on him. Maybe he's a bit macho!

Regarding Niina, yes, they did get married after a few years, I think Niina was in college or even graduated. Her father didn't like her boyfriend, and the boyfriend waited until the father agreed. Niina was really determined, though, since she had her previous life memory and all. There's also part that she visisted her previous life family, too. There's also a guy her age, but he had no chance! The story is really good and touching. I really like her art, too.
