I'm sure that many of you have heard the news that 5 cardinals have petitioned the Pope to make an ex cathedra pronouncement declaring a fifth Marian dogma, that Mary is Co-Redemptrix and Mediatrix of All Graces.

On the other hand, I do agree with you: it is probably not the most important thing for the idea to become an official Church dogma, even if it is true.
Personally, I have a problem with the idea of Dogma. There are beliefs that's central to Catholicism. For example, the Trinity, the sacrements. And to proclaim these as doctrines of Church that's true is part of our religion. Otherwise, is it REALLY that important for us to believe whether or not Mary is Mediatrix of All Graces and why that's the case? We believe that Mary is the mother of God and that we can ask for her intercession, along with the other saints and Jesus Christ, in our prayer. Shouldn't this be enough? If one has to understand why that's the case, won't that be a conversation that one has to research on one's own (and hopefully with the help of other theologians and priests)?
