summer in a glass

I just made the best drink ever, at least this evening, starting with your basic gin gimlet with muddled basil, then topped up with Knudson cucumber essence spritzer.  It is, I say, summer in a glass.  Alongside my basil tomato mozzarella sandwich it is perfect.

I keep meaning to ask, what means "muddled"?

You put some of the liquid (and any sugars, if applicable) with whatever you are muddling (herbs, fruits, whatever) in a pint glass or cocktail shaker and bash away at it with a muddler, which can look either like a miniature baseball bat or like some kind of mini meat tenderizer. Basically you beat the flavor out of whatever is being muddled.

The second one is going down just as well as the first ;-)
