Somehow you were on all of my various friends' lists except the one I actually read. Fixed that, now, after realizing I must be missing your posts after seeing melithiel's mention of this. :-}
I don't know if you need or want any more anecdotal information, but when my mother hurt her back (30 years ago) she was sleeping on the floor for a while, and eventually graduated to putting plywood between her half of the mattress and box springs for a couple years. I'm assuming your futon is on a firm wooden surface, and is probably at least as good as what she was doing? But if you also regularly co-sleep on a traditional mattress, you might find this trick useful for improved somnolent harmony? :-}
Yeah, my futon is just resting on the hard wooden slats of the futon frame right now. My normal mattress is on the floor anyway, not on a boxspring, so that shouldn't be *too* bad when I move back to it, and it is a lot more comfy than my futon. I'll see what my physical therapist says.
