This is kind of an abstract construct, but she still does exist. She's just not physically here. She's still with you in your memories. It'll take time for the hurt and the missing and the selfishness of grief to ease, but it will. You will adjust, you will be strong. and we will be drunk and chat when you feel able to get out and about or when you want company. *squish*
I didn't know Alison that well (except as the older sister that drove you up the wall when you were in your teens), but I know that she always seemed nice. You bitched about her annoying you then, but I could tell that underneath it you cared a lot about each other, and would have stood up for each other to the end if anyone had threatened you.
Your family always impressed me. There was this vein of strong feminine power that flowed through you all that I didn't feel I had, and I envied. If I had to fight for my life, I'd want any or all of you on my side.
It is never easy to lose someone. I believe that when it happens you do often feel regret firstly about things you could have done, about times you could have been nicer. I think it is just the way people react to loss, which is rather sad.
It does get easier and I am sure that there will be times when the memories are good. Photos and other physical things help to remember the good things. It does take a long time and you will no doubt be hurting for some time but memories and time spent with others are precious and cannot be taken away.
