This bill must not be passed!

Dear friends,

I just signed a petition to help stop Uganda's notorious "Kill the Gays" bill - which could legalize the death penalty for gay and lesbian people.  President Museveni promised to veto it but he's under pressure from Uganda's parliament who desperately want to pass it.  We can hold him to his promise by taking action right now.

We've ( Read more... )

I keep getting emails from them about various atrocities that people are trying to get passed into law. It makes me feel sick these politicians want to control people and take away their opportunity to love.
The people who want to make these laws should be locked away!

I have already signed this petition this morning. I should post the links to my journal whenever I get them to raise awareness. Well done you for doing that :-)

Sorry my comment was a bit rambling...

You're preaching to the choir! I'm just hoping that enough people will sign these petitions to make a difference. It's so important to keep applying the pressure. Killing someone just because they're gay is, to my mind, repeating the insanity and atrocity of killing people just because they were Jewish. It's inhuman and beyond horrific =(

(On a brighter note, John Barrowman is on Celebrity Antiques Road Trip tonight, BBC2 an 7pm - that should be fun! I wonder who he'll be paired with...and what car they'll be driving, lol! I love antiques shows!)

I'm out tonight but I will catch it on the good old BBC iPlayer later :-)
My parents always watch that program and I normally tease them about it because I find antiques shows quite dull. But I will make an exception this time because I'm sure he will liven it up!

I'm an antique myself... maybe that's why Antiques Road Trip and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is are both such fun for me! I enjoy the weird things that get bought and then have to be sold. John and Myleene Klass are competing against each other, and I like them both, but I'm hoping John wins. It might depend on who gets paired with the best expert. If I did anything like this, I'd want James Lewis - he always makes huge profits - but there's no mention of who the experts are for this one. I'm itching to find out!

oh god, don't these people have anything better to do, like make a decent quality of life for people, stop drug production, stop gangs, murder, corruption of politics... i could go on for a while here. i think if you genuinely have time to persecute your people for being in love with somebody you must have one damn good country

damn, these people need to try living in their communities for a while, not living off their citizens. my mother and i have both signed

Thank you! Every signature is important to pile pressure on the man who can keep the bill from being passed. I hope President Musovini will stay strong despite the pressure being put on him to allow the bill to pass. He needs to keep the promise he made. No one should not have to live in fear of being put to death because of their sexuality.

I had already signed it yesterday but it still terrifies me how little human life means for these monsters!

You can thank a bunch of US Ministers for this. Guess they can't kill/debase/marginalize gays around here anymore so they had to find somewhere to preach their message of hate.

Thanks for signing.

I'd always thought religion was about accepting people and treating everyone the way you'd want to be treated yourself, but there's so much hate being preached in the name of various religions, it terrifies and disgusts me.

I always wonder whether people who think this bill is a good idea care what people in other countries have to say-pretty sure they think we're all going to hell anyway--but I signed!

Thank you. Every signature helps.

If the global outcry is big enough, maybe it will push the president to stand firm and keep his promise. It's so ridiculous - gay people aren't harming anyone, all they want is to be free to be who they are, just like every person on earth. Sexuality shouldn't matter, everyone should be treated the same way.
