So, what does the average woman buy when she gets a bit of money for Christmas? Clothes? Make-up? Jewellery? Perfume? Shoes ( Read more... )

I think so too! Give me a rock and I'm happy!

I hadn't got a meteorite, they can be a bit pricy even for small ones (I'm on a budget), but I happened across one being auctioned on Christmas Day and there was only one other bidder, so I took a chance =)

I'll try to put up a photo if I can get a good one - it's very small, only a couple of centimetres, and I'm not terribly good at taking close-ups, they get a bit blurry, but I'll have a go when there's some decent light. Today has been very rainy and grey, and now it's dark out, not good for photography! Artificial light makes everything look the wrong colour.

I think I should have been a geologist or something - I do love rocks, lol!

I rock with my rocks, yay! =)

I've never fitted in, never been interested in things the other kids found fascinating - clothes and fashion, the latest pop group, make-up, it all just bored me. But I loved rocks, fossils, bones and shells, loved going around natural history museums or beachcombing on holidays. I really should have been a geologist or archaeologist. I'd rather be different, it's more fun!

Too true! I was never one to follow the crowd.

I will try to photograph it when there's some decent light. Don't expect anything pretty or sparkly though - it's black and barely 2 centimetres across! My Christmas present from mum is a more likely candidate for the term 'pretty' - it's a nugget of Egyptian Turquoise!

Hey, that's cool! I had no idea. All I knew you liked was Ianto. *evil grin*

That would have been such an interesting career. I am weird because I loved dinosaurs in my teens and 20's...still do and at the time before dinosaurs became really popular, usually just boys. I thought they were so amazing! Creatures that walled the earth so long ago, I didn't see them as monsters. Maybe I should have been a paleontologist. lol! They don't make much money I hear...but then neither do I on Social Security Disability. lol!

I even bought a book on them and studied up on them, no computers at the time, I'm old. There was a time I could have told you many facts about them, types, sizes, etc. Now I would have to go back and study again, but I still know some things.

Jarrasic Park blew me away! I still love it. So amazing how they made them look real and going by animals today, picked colors most likely they would have had, I guess to blend in. Though no one knows for sure. My favorite has always been the brontosaurus, next in line brachiosaurus ( ... )

I'm still passionate about dinosaurs as well, though like you I've forgotten a lot of the facts I used to know. I have some great books, but they're all in storage at the moment. Geology, paleontology, archaeology - all things I'm way more intetrested in than fashion and makeup and stuff. I never fitted in with the other girls at school.

I LOVE Jurassic Park - I've got the DVDs. Is it terrible to admit that I actually really enjoy all the movies, not just the first one (though that's still the best). I wa always fascinated by the Stegosaurus and Triceratops, but I love pteradodons (Yay Myfanwy) as well.

LOL! I forgot about (Myfanwy!) when I was talking about this. I love the pteradodons too! You will laugh, but when we go to Florida or really Gulf Shores, Al. I love the pelicans because when you look up in the sky and they are flying over, they look like smaller versions pterodactyls. The wing spans are beautiful and I love how they fly in formation together.

I know we have Jurassic Park on DVD and I think we have the 3rd one which I loved too! I was a little disappointed in the story of the 2nd one, but I think that is when I started seeing more and different kinds of dinosaurs. Yeah I agree the first was the best. Saw it first at the therater and wow!...what ride. I loved seeing it on the big screen, best way to see dinosaurs! Really cool. I am the same way about favorite sci-fi movies, got to see them on the big screen at least once. :D

Pelicans are the same sort of shape aren't they? Short tails, not much body behind the wings.. I was watching a programme called Earthflight earlier this week about birds and the ways they fly and their migrations and there were brown pelicans on that. They really do look rather prehistoric in flight, magnificent.

I don't get out much because of health issues so I haven't been to the cinema in many years, but in my teens I saw the original Star Wars films on the big screen, breathtaking! Also Superman. I've only seen Jurassic Park on TV screens, so it's not as dramatic that way. Ah well, at least since the invention of DVDs I can watch all the big films at home. Well, if I can afford the DVDs anyway, Lol!

Less than an hour now unti the new year here in Central England! I'd better do my New Year post! Someone has started their fireworks early!
