Does anyone happen to know if it's mentioned anywhere in Torchwood or Doctor Who exactly when and/or how Jack came into possession of the Doctor's severed hand ( Read more... )

I believe he rescued it from Torchwood 1, after the Sycorax invasion.

Thank you.

Hmmm, do you know of any fanon about how he wrested it from their clutches by any chance?

Clean up from Canary Wharf

That's certainly plausible - I doubt Hartman would give it up willingly (unless she never had it in the first place).

Thank you!

The only thing I've seen, and I think it was a fan fic, was that Jack knew the Doctor would be around when the alien ship appeared and went to London to try and find him. He saw the hand fall off the ship and went to get it, thinking the Doctor would come back and look for it.

I wish I could remember exactly where it was I read that.

Interesting. Thank you, I'll see if I can use any of the information I'm getting to come up with something workable.

If you happen to remember where you read it (unlikely, I know, considering how much you've got on your plate right now), let me know, I'd like to read it myself"

I'm sure it was on AO3, but there's so much in the Jack/Ianto listings that I don't know if I would be able to point to one thing. I'll see if I can run back across it again.

Maybe I'll come across it browsing at some point.

Thank you!

I have a feeling that this is not explained in the series. It must then fall back on fanfics.

For my part, I also think that Jack went to London seeing this ship. He suspected that the Doctor would be in the vicinity. But he fell on the hand.

I think you're probably right, but I needed to check in case I'd missed something.

Thank you. Hopefully I can come up with something good for the person who requested it.

I'm pretty sure it is not mentioned on the show, but it is mentioned several times in different fan tics - One Jack found the hand hanging off the top of a spire or arial on a building - where it had fallen, he has it given to him by Ianto, either while he is working at one or when he has escaped and brought it with him (to distract from Lisa, cos they had built up a relationship over the phone etc.). Others were Jack find it in the ruins of one, so I would use what makes your story work, hey you could come up with a whole new way he got his 'Doctor Detector'.

Thank you.

I didn't remember it being mentioned, but it's been a while since I watched and I didn't want to make a mistake. Seems like I more or less have free rein and can make up my own mind. I'll have to see whst i can come up with!

Hi, honey -- I've never seen or heard anything official, but I do remember reading in a fic a very long time ago -- the author wrote that Jack, always on the lookout for sightings of the Doctor, heard he was in London and headed that direction, but naturally arrived too late -- accidentally encountered the hand lying on the ground -- how he knew it was the Doctor's I don't know.

Another writer put forth that Torchwood recovered the hand and took it back to the Tower -- its authenticity confirmed by Harriet Jones -- after One fell and Jack & his team were scavenging the ruins and archives, he found the hand there and took it back to Cardiff, altho he refused to say whose it was or why he had to have it.

I know these probably don't help you too much, but it'll give you an idea of how others explained the appendage away!!!

Have you tried Bing, entering maybe 'the Doctor's hand'? I wonder what would come up???

Happy New Year!!!! Love, Melinda

Thanks, Melinda, that should help me decide which way I want to go with it, although at this point I'm torn between Jack finding it in the steet and finding it while looting the Torchwood tower. i'll have to thin on both versions and decifde what works best for my purposes.

I haven't tried Bing, I never seem to get anything useful when I have in the past. Maybe it's just me, lol!

Happy New Year!
