Who said these came through the Rift? They're a spacefaring race, intergalactic traders. Hence the choosing of a neutral planet. ;)

Sorry, my bad. But it is good to know nice aliens occasionally do visit earth, however they got there! :-Don't worry, I won't tell them they're cute. Wouldn't want to risk upsetting them.

In my Torchwood universe, they get as many good aliens as bad ones and not all of them come through the Rift. Some use their own spaceships.

Yep, real, live teddy bears, or something very similar. They're a space-faring race, trading all over, so they need these gatherings to keep up with all the latest happenings. Jack's met their kind many times.
