“But… but…” the woman stuttered, staring at the Dee like a deer caught in headlights. “You can’t arrest me! I’m attending an important corporate dinner this evening, I just got my hair and nails done specially!”
“Yeah? Shame about that.”
“I’m the guest of honor’s wife! Everyone expects me to be there; it’ll look bad for my husband if I’m not!”
“Lady, I don’t care if you’re the Governor’s wife; it’s not gonna change anything. If you didn’t wanna be arrested, maybe you shouldn’t have stabbed the cashier with one of the screwdrivers you were buyin’, right in front of an off-duty cop.”
“But I had a coupon, and that idiot said I couldn’t use it!”
“All this over a coupon for ten cents off a bag of chips, that expired yesterday. If your husband’s such a big deal, you could’a easily afforded to pay the full price. Instead, I’m chargin’ ya with aggravated assault, grievous bodily harm, disturbin’ the peace, attempted fraud…”
“WHAT?!”
“You tried to change the date on the coupon.”
“How dare you!” She swung her handbag at Dee.
“And that’s assaultin’ a police officer. Face it, lady; you’re gonna be spendin’ tonight in a holdin’ cell.”
