Dee was scowling when he arrived at work, stalking into the squad room, and slumping into the seat at his desk with an annoyed huff.
“What’s up with you? Get out of bed the wrong side this morning? Or did JJ catch you?”
“Haha, so very NOT funny.” If anything, Dee’s scowl deepened.
“Okay, so what’s put you in such a foul mood?” If Dee was going to be like this for their entire shift, it was going to be a very long day. “Nothing I’ve done, I hope.” Dee had been in a good mood the previous evening when Ryo had left his lover’s place to head home.
“What? No, or course not!” Dee seemed shocked that Ryo could even think that he might be to blame.
“Then what?”
“Some asshole rammed my car when I stopped at the drive through on my way in. Now I’ve got a huge dent in the rear fender that’s never gonna come out. Means I’ll haveta source a replacement. It was hard enough findin’ an original fender for a sixty-nine Charger in the first place, took me months, and now I gotta find another one in good enough condition. God knows what that’ll cost.”
Ryo understood Dee’s pain; if someone had rammed his beloved Pontiac GTO, he would have been furious. He and his dad had practically rebuilt the car, turning it from a clapped-out rust bucket into the beauty it was now.
“I hope you arrested the idiot.”
“Didn’t have to, there was a couple uniforms in the parkin’ lot, grabbin’ breakfast. They saw the whole thing.”
“That’s great!”
“Yeah, it would be, ‘cept the moron was drivin’ without a licence or insurance.”
“You’re pressing charges though, right?”
“Damn straight! He’s gonna be payin’ for my repairs outta his own pocket.”
