Ianto knew he should be grateful not to have been executed or retconned in the aftermath of the Lisa debacle. He was doubly fortunate that Jack had allowed him to return to work after his four-week suspension; having a job gave him a reason to drag himself out of bed every morning, get dressed, and leave the cramped little apartment that he’d only intended to be a temporary accommodation until Lisa was healed.
Doing something, having a purpose, was better than sitting around moping all day, sunk in grief, guilt, and shame, but it didn’t make him feel any less miserable. He’d lost everything that had mattered to him when Lisa, or what was left of her, died her final death. All his hopes for their future together shattered. Now all he was left with was Torchwood, and a group of people who could hardly stand to look at him, avoiding him as much as possible.
“It will get easier,” a voice said behind him as he cleaned up after his colleagues. “I know it doesn’t seem that way right now, but it will.”
Ianto turned to Jack. “How do I keep going until it does?”
“You lean on me.”
