The miserable weather was getting the whole team down. It was supposed to be summer, yet all Britain seemed to be getting was rain, cold winds, and more rain. Even the Weevils were staying off the streets, keeping to the sewers as much as possible, although considering the rainfall, they were probably hip deep in water.
Going on Rift retrievals was more of a nuisance than ever. Nobody wanted to go out in the rain, especially when the wind meant they couldn’t use an umbrella, so Ianto had instituted a rota system with everybody, including himself and Jack, taking their turns. It was the fairest way of dealing with an unavoidable chore. When they didn’t need to leave the Hub, everyone just huddled at their desks, reluctantly doing paperwork, and hoping their coats would dry before they had to go out again.
Every day was the same, week after week, until the whole team was convinced that summer had been cancelled and they’d somehow missed the memo. So when Jack came dashing back in babbling something about sunshine, everyone just stared at him like he’d lost his mind.
“You what?” Owen demanded.
“It’s sunny! Come see!” Summer had finally arrived.
