A/N: Double drabble.
Finding a dead cat in the basement of her house had been bad enough. Buffy had only gone down there to fetch the best plates for her mom, and instead had wound up on burial detail. Maybe she should have expected things to go downhill from there, but she’d been semi-optimistically looking forward to her Welcome Home party, expecting a cosy little get-together with her closest buds.
Then the dead cat had unburied its still dead self, and it hadn’t been any too friendly. It hadn’t exactly been fragrant either, but at that point, the worst was still yet to come.
Forget the zombies, and her mom’s new bedroom décor possessing Pat. Buffy hadn’t liked her, but she still didn’t deserve her fate. Well, the thing possessing her did, but that was sort of beside the point.
No, the worst part was the party itself. Live band, loud music, dozens of people she barely knew, or had never met, gate-crashers, her mom sipping peach schnapps in the kitchen and complaining to Pat about things not being any better now Buffy was back, and Buffy herself wandering around, feeling like a stranger in her own home…
She’d never felt less welcome.
