“Twinkle, twinkle, little star,” Ianto murmured, lying on his back on the mossy ground, gazing up at the darkening night sky.
Beside him, Jack chuckled. “That’s not a star.”
“It isn’t?” Ianto blinked and studied the bright object more carefully. It didn’t appear to be moving, just hanging overhead, twinkling gently. “Are you sure? It looks like a star, even twinkles like one.”
“When it gets dark enough to see the stars, you’ll wonder how you could’ve mistaken that for one.”
“So if it’s not a star, what is it?”
“Geostationary satellite, not much different from the ones back on earth. There’s another over there.” Jack pointed off to the right and Ianto followed with his eyes.
“Oh, so there is.” He felt slightly foolish now.
“Don’t worry about it. Most people make the same mistake first time they come here.”
“Right. So how long before the stars start to…” Ianto trailed off as the night sky began to shimmer faintly, and then it was as though some unseen person had flipped a switch and turned on the largest light display in the universe.
The stars above didn’t just twinkle, they lit up the night in a breathtaking display.
“Incredible!”
