For so long Buffy had done what she was supposed to do, hiding the truth about being the Slayer from everyone. Nobody was really supposed to know aside from Buffy and her Watcher, she’d had that drummed into her from the start, but somehow coming to Sunnydale had changed things.
Giles hadn’t been happy about Xander and Willow finding out, and then Cordelia, and Oz, but really, what was Buffy supposed to do? She couldn’t wipe their memories, and her friends would have seen through any lies she told them in an instant. They knew what they’d seen.
Her mom had been another matter though. Until now it had been easier to let her believe that her daughter was a teenaged delinquent; at least that was something understandable.
But circumstances meant that now, telling the truth was unavoidable. She’d just staked a vampire right in front of her mom, who already thought she was on the run for murdering Kendra. Now here Buffy was, in a race against time to prevent the world being sucked into Hell; how much worse could a bit of long-overdue honesty make things?
Maybe it was time to come clean.
“Mom… I’m a Vampire Slayer.”
