A/N: Double drabble.
“How d’you even find anything down here?” Owen looked around at the rows of cluttered shelves, boxes, and filing cabinets in disbelief.
“It’s called a cataloguing system,” Ianto replied. “Admittedly it’s a work in progress, but that’s hardly my fault. I’ve only been here a year and a half, and most of this stuff has been down here for decades. I’m not sure anyone ever bothered sorting it until I came along.”
“So how come you’re bothering? Seems like a lot of pointless hard work to me.”
Ianto shrugged. “Someone has to, before we get completely buried. Besides, wouldn’t you rather have everything organised, so we know where to find things if we need them? Not everything down here is junk.”
“How can you tell?”
“Research, and in some cases, trial and error.” Ianto smiled sheepishly. “There is a certain amount of guesswork involved, the paperwork on some of the items is sketchy at best. Some things are labelled, but the labels aren’t always helpful.” He reached for an object on a nearby shelf. “For instance, this one’s labelled Small Green Blobby Thing, which is true enough, but not very enlightening. It’s Jack’s handwriting,” he added.
Owen smirked. “That figures.”
