The Doctor led Bill slowly through a magnificent, deserted city, gradually beginning to crumble after centuries of neglect.
“At one time, the Viziree were among the most advanced races in this sector of the galaxy, but this is all that remains.”
“What happened to them?”
“They grew obsessed with racial purity, couldn’t stand even the smallest deviation from what they considered the norm. The planet’s orbit was gradually bringing them closer to their sun. In normal circumstances they’d have evolved to cope with the changing conditions, but that process was blocked. They ran into an evolutionary dead-end and died out.”
