What had appeared from a distance to be one massive mound of pinkness turned out on closer inspection to be an ingenious construction made from separate pieces of the same pink, rubbery substance, carefully fitted together to form a single structure.
The Doctor was flummoxed; the planet was supposed to be uninhabited, so who could have built the mound on this rocky shelf, and from what? There was nothing else like it in the vicinity.
Carefully he prised one lump out of the structure.
An eye opened, glaring at him.
“Ah, sorry.”
The mass was made up of individual creatures.
