Working at Torchwood One had basically been an office job, little different than any other if you ignored the fact that most of what was dealt with was of extraterrestrial origin. Ianto had merely been another corporate suit in the bustling metropolis, going to work each day to push papers around, make coffee, and keep his boss organised.
It had paid better than many, but it had seldom been what anyone would have described as thrilling.
Torchwood Three was different before Ianto even got through the doors. Saving Jack from a Weevil, following him around trying to get him to change his mind about hiring a former Torchwood One employee, catching a Pterodactyl…
Ianto had never imagined anything like that. It had been wild, crazy, ridiculous, and had set his heart pounding like few things ever had in his admittedly short life. Part of that had been the sheer adrenaline rush of trying to capture a huge prehistoric flying reptile; the rest of it had been Captain Jack Harkness himself.
The intoxicating scent coming off the man had been enough to make Ianto’s mouth water. Rolling with him on the warehouse floor had been a different kind of rush entirely.
