When it came to love, Buffy mused, no one had the right to tell anyone else what was acceptable and what wasn’t. Take herself, for instance; she was the Slayer and yet she’d fallen for a vampire with a soul. Her mom hadn’t approved, first because of the age difference and then because… Well, vampire.
Some of her friends hadn’t exactly approved either, but they were no better. Willow had an online romance with a demon, then dated a werewolf before discovering she was a lesbian and romancing a fellow witch. Xander had dated Cordelia of all people and then almost married an ex-vengeance demon.
Even Giles, who thought computers were practically the work of the devil, had succumbed to the charms of a technopagan in the form of Ms Calendar, the computer teacher at Sunnydale High. If Angelus hadn’t killed her, they might have gotten married and be raising little book-loving technopagans by now.
As for Buffy’s mom, she’d dated a homicidal robot.
Maybe it was a Sunnydale thing. As smalltown America went, it did seem to attract people from the weirder end of the spectrum. Some of them were even human.
Not that it mattered. Normality was overrated.
