Summary: The Doctor can’t just nip to the local TARDIS dealership for repairs.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.
Junkyards were excellent places to look for spare parts. For a Time Lord, repurposing everyday objects was child’s play. An old radio could serve as a detection device, with the right modifications to its wiring and circuits. Bicycle pumps were always handy things to have, and you could never have too many TV screens and vacuum tubes.
The ancient mangle was a particularly exciting find and the Doctor proudly dragged it into the TARDIS.
“What d’you think of this then? Look at that handle! Good, solid craftmanship, that; bound to be useful.”
Repairing an obsolete TARDIS required ingenuity and improvisation.
