A/N: Double drabble.
The Torchwood Curse wasn’t talked about much, although it was a tacitly acknowledged truth: working for Torchwood guaranteed an early death. It was a dangerous job, always had been and always would be, especially for Torchwood Three personnel.
At Torchwood One, the office staff often lived to pension age, but not the field agents, the ones who put their lives on the line every day, battling alien threats. Of course, then the Canary Wharf massacre had happened and only a handful of people had survived…
Everyone at Three doubled as a field agent, regardless of their other areas of specialization. They had to because it was a team of five. That being the case, even though they didn’t discuss it, they all knew each day, each mission, could be their last. Reaching forty was an almost unheard-of miracle, and every day over the age of twenty-five was a bonus.
When Ianto mentioned as much to Gwen, although not in those exact words, he wasn’t being gloomy, just stating an unalterable fact, and she had the nerve to tell him to cheer up! Probably thought dying young only happened to other people.
Ianto knew otherwise. Nobody got out of Torchwood alive.
