“Are you ready for Halloween?” Tosh asked Owen during an idle moment between Rift alerts. It was the last week of October and she’d been talking to Ianto earlier, comparing notes on candy bought and decorations planned.
“What d’you mean, ready?”
“Well, have you got enough candy?”
“Loads. It’ll last me for months.”
“You don’t think you’ll get many Trick or Treaters in your building?”
“Don’t know and I don’t care, ‘cause I won’t be there. I’m gonna stay here all night so I don’t have to deal with all the sugar-hyped runts.”
Wandering over with coffee, Ianto joined in the conversation. “Jack will be glad you’re volunteering; he’s really looking forward to taking David and Mica out. He’s already got his pirate costume. You’re okay with staying here all night by yourself?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
Ianto shrugged. “The Hub’s haunted, and Halloween night brings out a lot of restless spirits. Jack and I always make ourselves scarce to avoid them.”
“I’m not scared,” Owen sneered. “I don’t believe in ghosts.”
“Suit yourself, but when the lights go dim, avoid the pools of blood that ooze up from the floor. Step in one and you’ll never be seen again.”
