A/N: Double drabble.
It should have been an open and shut case, the accused should have been facing life in prison for the murder of an innocent young woman, but instead he’d walked from the courtroom a free man. He was the only son of a wealthy family, they’d paid for the best lawyer money could buy, and suddenly the prosecution’s main witness had changed her story, claimed she’d been confused, hadn’t actually seen anything…
Witness tampering was a crime, but they had no proof, so Dee and Ryo had left the courtroom silently seething, gone home, thrown a few things in a bag, and headed for the marina. They barely stopped for breath until they were far out on the ocean, beyond sight of land, leaving New York City and all its stresses far behind them. They still hadn’t spoken a single word to each other.
They’d done their job, collected evidence, built a case, questioned and subpoenaed witnesses… They hadn’t put a foot wrong and yet still a sociopathic monster had gotten away with murder.
Out of sight wasn’t out of mind, but both detectives knew they needed the space right now, so they wouldn’t be tempted to do something stupid.
The End
