Angel was so frustrating. He’s show up out of the blue with some dire but cryptic warning guaranteed to mess up her almost non-existent social life, like some personal harbinger of doom and gloom, then be gone again practically before she could blink. Every time Buffy thought she’d seen the last of him and could concentrate on catching the eye of a nice, regular boy her own age, he’d pop up and set her heart to pounding again.
As much as she would have liked to convince Mister Tall, Dark, and Brooding that she wasn’t even remotely interested, it would be a lie. Seriously, had the guy never looked in a mirror? He was gorgeous, he made all the boys she went to school with look like… Well, schoolboys. On a scale of one to ten, Angel was at least a fifteen, maybe a twenty if he wasn’t so dead set on being infuriating. Looks mattered, but so did personality.
Now here he was again, doing his usual cryptic message-bearer act, and Buffy wanted to slap him, or kiss him, or something, just to get some kind of reaction out of him, but she had to keep up the disinterested act. She had her pride and if he wasn’t going to fall all over her, or at least ask her out on a date, then her pride was all she had to hold on to.
Then…
“You’re cold.”
“You can take it.”
“I mean, you look cold.”
Before Buffy knew what was happening, Angel was taking off his leather jacket and wrapping it around her shoulders, and damn him for doing something so sweet and caring when she was trying to be mad at him!
Then he was back to cryptic warning mode… Why’d he have to be so confusing?
