It was strange how quickly Ryo had gotten accustomed to sharing a bed. Being an only child, he’d never had to share, even when friends slept over, and later, when he’d started dating, he’d only spent the night with girlfriends a handful of times. He’d never slept well in someone else’s bed, and he hadn’t been particularly comfortable having someone else in his own.
Somehow, right from the start, even before they became a couple, it had been different with Dee; he’d been a comforting presence rather than an intrusion. Ryo had started to find it easier to sleep when Dee was beside him than when they were apart, but even so he’d been a little nervous about moving in with his lover. The thought of them sharing a bed every night… He’d comforted himself with the knowledge that if it got too much for him to handle, he could sleep in Bikky’s room whenever his foster son was away at college.
Three months in, and he had yet to retreat to the other bedroom. Dee was warm and solid, snuggled up against him as they slept, and whenever he and his partner worked separate shifts, the bed felt empty and cold without him. Now he was beginning to wonder how he ever could have been comfortable sleeping in his parents’ big, solid, hardwood-framed bed all by himself. The very idea seemed unnatural!
Sleeping beside the man he loved felt right. Now he hated having to spend the night alone.
