Even in a long-term committed relationship, arguments still happened. Just because two people loved each other deeply didn’t keep them from getting on each other’s nerves at times, especially when work stresses were added into the mix, which was unavoidable when both parties were overworked cops. All Dee had done was ask what was for dinner, and Ryo had blown up at him.
“You seriously expect me to cook after the day I’ve had?”
“Hey, ease up there, babe; no need to get bent outta shape, it was only a question. You could’a just said you don’t wanna cook and asked me to order take-out; ya didn’t haveta bite my head off.”
Dee was right, and Ryo knew it; he just didn’t feel like being reasonable. Despite usually being the calmer and more level-headed of the two, today one thing had piled on another, pushing him to the limits of his endurance. He was in a bad mood, and he intended to stay in a bad mood for as long as he wanted.
It had been one of those days, and he’d had it with being told by people he’d barely met what he should think and how he should feel about things that were none of their business in the first place, without his lover getting in on the act. The entire day seemed to have been filled with a bunch of racist, sexist, misogynistic, homophobic assholes and lawyers. He was mad as Hell, and excuse him for wanting to vent!
He glared at Dee. “You don’t like being yelled at? Well neither do I, and I’ve had to deal with it all day, so screw you!”
Green eyes blinked at him, then Dee shrugged casually, hands jammed in his pants pockets and a lopsided half-grin on his face.
“Sure, if you want. I’m easy, but I guess I don’t haveta tell you that.”
“What?” That wasn’t the reaction Ryo was expecting, and now he was confused, like he’d somehow fallen into a completely different conversation to the one he’d thought they were having. Okay, so it had been an argument rather than a conversation, or should have been if his lover hadn’t been trying, unsuccessfully, to calm him down, but still… Damn Dee, sometimes he could be so incredibly infuriating!
“You can screw me if ya want to, I’d be up for that, anytime and anywhere. It’s never been a hard and fast rule that I should always top, you just seemed to like it that way, but if ya wanna flip things around, I’m game. Just say the word.”
Ryo shook his head, all of his anger somehow evaporating. “How does my being in a bad mood translate into a conversation about sex? No, wait, for a minute there I forgot who I’m talking to. Everything’s about sex with you, isn’t it?” He scowled at his lover. “Can’t you even let me be mad at the world for a bit?” It sounded petulant, but Ryo didn’t care. Dee had seen him in every mood there was and still wanted to be with him. If being yelled at hadn’t sent him running for the hills, then seeing this side of his partner was unlikely to either.
“Yeah, I could’a just let ya stew, but I know from experience bein’ mad at the world never really gets anyone anywhere. It’s a waste of energy that could be put to way better, not to mention more enjoyable, uses.”
“And I already have a pretty good idea what uses you’d choose.” An unwilling smile tugged at the corners of Ryo’s mouth.
Dee’s grin widened. “Well sure, you know me. Sex is the best form of stress relief there is. And I meant what I said. Top, bottom, upside down hangin’ from a tree, you can screw me any which way ya want. Whatever makes ya happy.”
It was impossible for Ryo not to laugh. “You’re nuts.”
“Baby, I get that you had a rough day, and I just wanna make it better.” Pulling his hands out of his pockets, Dee sauntered over, hooked his fingers in Ryo’s belt loops, and reeled him in for a kiss. “So, d’you wanna order take-out first or save that for later?”
Giving in to the inevitable, Ryo nudged his lover in the direction of the bedroom. “Right now what I want is to get out of this suit and forget about today, so let’s just play it by ear, okay?”
“Oh, I can definitely do ears,” Dee teased, leaning in to nibble a lobe and feeling Ryo melt against him. His partner’s ears were a highly sensitive part of his anatomy, and an almost infallible way of getting him in the mood. As Ryo let out a low moan of pleasure, Dee smirked to himself. Yep, looked like dinner would have to wait a while; right now, there was something more important to take care of. By the time Dee was done, Ryo wasn’t even going to remember his own name, never mind whatever he’d been so mad about earlier.
