A/N: Double drabble.
“There’s nothing better than fresh, organically grown fruit and veg, is there?” Jack said happily, coming indoors with a selection just picked from their roof garden.
“Especially when it’s homegrown,” Ianto agreed. “It doesn’t get fresher than that, but we’ll have to bring in the harvest before the weather gets much colder. We’ll freeze whatever we can for use over winter, maybe preserve some in other ways. Might not be quite as good as straight from the garden, but still better than shop bought.”
“We’ve done pretty well for our first year, haven’t we?”
Ianto nodded. “Better than I expected. We can start harvesting and preserving at the weekend. In the meantime, we should just enjoy our own fresh produce. I thought I’d whip up a salad to go with the leftover roast beef from yesterday. The salad leaves are the most likely to be hit by an early frost; we don’t want them going to waste.”
“Good idea, and I could make a plum pie for dessert.” Jack picked up a plum, still warm from the sun, and bit into it. “Oh. Ugh!” He pulled a face.
“What?”
“The downside of homegrown fruit; it’s got a maggot in it.”
