“Just when ya thought it was safe to use the subway,” Dee said, chuckling as he flopped into his desk chair.

“Hm?” Ryo stopped typing and peered at his lover over the tops of his reading glasses. “Something interesting happen?”

“I wouldn’t say interestin’, and I didn’t see it myself…” Dee frowned. “Not sure if I should be relieved or disappointed about that. Ah well, might still get a chance. Anyway.” He leaned forward, elbows on his desk, and grinned at his partner. “Seems it’s that time of year when the perverts come outta the woodwork. I guess winter doesn’t show ‘em to their best advantage.”

Ryo was getting increasingly baffled. “What’re you talking about?”

“Got a flasher on the subway. Accordin’ to a friend of mine with the transport police, they’ve had seven separate complaints in the last forty-eight hours, and from what witnesses have been able to tell ‘em, those who actually looked north of what he was showin’ off, sounds like the same guy every time. ‘Course, only four of the witnesses saw his face, but I’d lay odds the other three would’a given the same description if they hadn’t been so shocked.”

“Not really NYPD business though, is it? I mean, if this individual is sticking to the subway, catching him is down to the transport police.”

“That’s if he stays down there. He could escalate, start lookin’ for attention elsewhere, or even change his tactics. Anyway, my friend’s faxing a sketch through so everyone can be on the lookout, and I got us an advance copy.” Dee winked. “We’re lookin’ for a white guy, late twenties or early thirties, about five-ten, sandy hair, freckles. Pretty nondescript. Oh, and he’s wearin’ a navy-blue raincoat, standard flasher style.”

“We have cases of our own, Dee. We can’t go looking for this guy.”

“I know, but maybe we’ll get lucky and run into him.”

“Lucky?”

“Never hurts to make an arrest.”

“I guess.”

Three days and another nine sightings later, Dee and Ryo were heading home by subway, feeling good having solved one of their cases, a nasty double homicide. The guilty party was now cooling his heels behind bars.

“We should celebrate,” Dee was saying, when Ryo nudged him with an elbow and murmured something. “What’s that?”

“Blue raincoat, sandy hair…”

“You’re kiddin’. Where?”

Ryo didn’t need to answer. Suddenly the guy was right in their field of vision, coat flipping open in front of a shocked young woman.

Dee stared. “Seriously? Ya think that’s worth showin’ off? That’s downright pitiful. I consider myself a connoisseur of male anatomy and that wouldn’t even rate a one. Wanna see somethin’?” He flipped his own jacket to the side, revealing his police badge clipped to his belt. “You’re under arrest for makin’ a public spectacle of yourself.”

As the train pulled into the station and the flasher turned to flee, he found Ryo before him, wielding handcuffs.

“End of the line. This is where you get off.”

Dee snickered.
